April 4th 8:20am - Rt. 57 Roadside

You all lay on the ground. Your limbs ache slightly, which you can only estimate is from the fact that you are tied down to the roadside, just inside the woodland cover. However...

You are tied down with tree roots and creeper vines. A slight layer of mud leaves and dirt cover some of your bodies. Otherwise you feel healthy and rested.

Nearby a police officer is leaning over something, you cannot see the others from where you are laying. He has exclaimed, "Holy shit! One of them is alive!" into his radio.

Ayla struggles, trying to break herself free from the roots hold.

Lucas shifts the grip on the knife he was concealing, and begins cutting at the roots he can reach, working to free himself.

"Hey! A little help here!" Lucas struggles to free himself.

Ayla struggles, cursing the infernal vegetation

You both stuggle with the vines and roots but are unable to break free. The cage of the vines holds fast as if these roots had just grown fresh and young over you.

However, Lucas manages to catch the attention of the cop. He says into his radio, "Martin. You better get a crew down here. I think they're all alive!". The police officer moves over to Lucas, "Its okay son. I have a saw. I'll try to work on some of ya while the emergency crew gets here. They'll be a spell" he says in his heavy southern drawl.

"Sure thing, Officer...the sooner you get me free, the sooner I can start freeing the people here, and you can look for anybody else who might need it..."

Attempts at removing the vines just seem futile. They are very resilient.

The officer looks around at the bunch, with some folks still in a catatonic state. He looks over at Lucus, "I'll see what I can do". He double takes the situation as if he doesn't believe what he is seeing.

He checks his firearm, a huge .357 revolver with an extended barrel (and very clean and well taken care of blue steel). He shakes his head. He reaches around to his back and pulls out a rather large buck-knife in a brown hand-made leather sheath. He sighs and sets about cutting at the roots around Lucas.

While doing so, he looks over at Alessio. "You are on Rt. 57 just outside the borders of the town of Amherst. I'm Sargent Rick Mandle I don't know how you folks got into this par-dic-a-ment, but it sure is ...um strange". After cutting a few of the vines away from a thick tree root he pulls on the root with a mighty tug. He strains heavily using all his weight, but only manages to budge the root a little.

Lucas can give me a Wits + Composure to make note of someting.

The rest of you can give me a Wits + Empathy (-2 Dice) to notice something in the mannerism of the Sargent.

"How far from the train wreck are we? How many other survivors are there besides us?"

Just after finishing pulling at the roots and cutting vines, Mandle looks over towards Timothy and furrows his eyebrows. He takes his hat off and wipes sweat from his brow. He places his hat back on his head, "Train wreck?". He says confusedly.

"We were on a train," Ayla begins to explain, "In car number 3. Some very strange things started happening, and we woke up here."

Rick scracthes his head after putting his buck knife away. In the distance everyone can hear the sound of emergency vehicles and thier sirens. "A train? So you came from the train station? ...Well you all relax. I'm sure you can explain your story down at the station later. Anyone need any water, food? I got some emergency rations and bottled water in the back of muh car."

"No I don't feel thirsty or hungry, just wondering how we got here tanged in these roots. Are we in Amherst?"

Hhhmmm I was on a bus to Amherst, when I fell asleep, and had a strange dream then woke up here. I will take a bottle of water, please.

Mandle heads over to his squad car and gets some water for Alessio. "Ya know, if I could figure out how you got in these roots like you did I'd have a place to put my ex-wife! Hah!"

He pours some water for Alessio.

"Yeah. You all are in Amherst, well...the ass end of Amherst anyway", he saids looking up. He looks northward for a long moment. "Don't know why you'd be up this way. Lucky someone made a call to our station to check out this way".

"Someone called and asked you to check out here?" Ayla asks. She wasnt so sure this was a dream, but if it wasnt it was certinally the strangest thing she had ever heard of.

The sargent takes a sip of the water and sits down on a nearby rock, "Yeah. Someone called it in. Lucky you I would suppose. Wouldn't last long out here in these woods...in that perdictament".

The sounds of emergency vehicles are getting closer, but still a ways off.

Thank you for the water. I will be happy to be in a decent bed tonight, and put this weird event behind me.

Alessio just sits and waits for the emergency crews to come and free him

One last note about this situation is that all your personal effects have been taken away except your clothes and one form of ID (any wallets and such have been removed).

Lucas easily gives his name, and agrees to go to the hospital.
